Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Smile

Posted .

As you spring clean your house this year, try to spring clean your smile as well! Spring cleaning your smile can keep your teeth and gums clean and fresh and it can help you maintain the top-notch smile you deserve. So, our dentist, Dr. Nathalie Dowsett, encourages you to include “spring clean the smile” on your to-do list. To spring clean your smile, it’s best to do the following things:

-Get a professional dental cleaning: A professional dental cleaning is a top-notch treatment that removes the plaque and tartar from your teeth and gumline. This is important because it helps you prevent cavities, gum disease and other dental issues. So, if you’re due for your six-month checkup, make sure to schedule it!

-Replace your toothbrush: Your toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months or after your toothbrush bristles have frayed. If you have been using your toothbrush for awhile or if the bristles are no longer effective, it’s time to replace it. Make sure to replace it with a soft-bristled toothbrush that has been approved by the American Dental Association.

-Clean your retainers and night guards: This is recommended because oral appliances tend to build up plaque and bacteria. It’s best to clean your appliances by soaking them in denture cleaner or brushing them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and soap.
