Dental Care During Pregnancy: Why it’s Important

Posted .

As you might have heard, there are several changes you should expect during your pregnancy. For instance, you may know that the way you exercise and eat might change. However, please remember that your oral health might also change.

For example, you could have heard that you shouldn’t visit a dentist when you’re pregnant. However, this may not be completely true. You see, it’s actually important to remember that visiting our dentist is important throughout your pregnancy. While some treatments shouldn’t be done during your pregnancy, we might be able to keep your teeth clean. In fact, we may suggest even more frequent cleanings. We also suggest scheduling a meeting with us when you learn that you’re pregnant.

During pregnancy, you could be much more susceptible to problems like gum disease since your hormones may change. In reality, pregnant women will have elevated levels of progesterone, which can inflame blood vessels in your gums, which could cause gum disease.

Finally, please remember that your diet is very important while you’re pregnant. If you don’t follow a healthy, balanced diet, you might not get the calcium or vitamins your body needs. If you don’t have enough calcium, your child’s teeth won’t develop properly.
