Choosing Your Next Toothbrush

Posted .

We all know that brushing and flossing your teeth every single day is imperative to ideal oral health. You should brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes. Knowing how to choose a toothbrush that will best aid you in your fight against decay is important as well, so Dr. Nathalie Dowsett and our team are thrilled to give you tips.

Toothbrush Bristles
The bristles of your new toothbrush should be soft, or even extra soft. Avoid toothbrushes whose bristles are medium or hard, as these can damage your tooth enamel. In addition, choose a toothbrush whose bristles are of varied lengths. This allows your brush to clean deep grooves of the teeth easily.

Toothbrush Head
Your toothbrush’s head should be small enough that it can easily reach all areas of your mouth so that you can achieve a thorough clean.

Electric vs. Manual
Both electric and manual toothbrushes can effectively and comfortably clean your teeth if used properly. Choose whichever type you prefer. If you have a hard time achieving a thorough clean with a manual toothbrush, consider buying an electric toothbrush.

Other Factors
Other factors are really dependent on your preferences when you choose your toothbrush. For instance, toothbrush heads come in various shapes, from oval to rectangular. Choose the shape that feels the most comfortable when you brush.
