When preparing for a complex dental procedure like dental implant placement or tooth extraction, Dr. Nathalie Dowsett will take a CT scan in Calgary, Alberta. Our cone beam CT is used when traditional dental X-rays are not enough. The CT scanner produces 3D images of your dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths, and bone in just one scan. CT scanning can capture images of bone and soft tissue at the same time. The images produced with a cone beam CT are used for precise treatment planning.

During a scan, the cone beam CT C-arm will rotate around the head in a 360-degree rotation. During this rotation, multiple images are captured from different angles. Our cone beam CT will put these images together to form a 3D image. Our dentist will ask you to remain very still during the scan so clear images can be taken. The scan will take 10 to 40 seconds, depending on the size of the area being captured. You should wear loose, comfortable clothing for your exam. Our dentist may request that you remove metal objects like jewelry, glasses, dentures, and hairclips. If possible, patients should also remove piercings.
